Select a formula
Start with the common 10-point multiplier only when it fits your context. If your school uses a different maximum or offset, choose scale ratio or custom formula instead.

A SIMPLE THREE-STEP WORKFLOW
This CGPA to Percentage Calculator keeps the conversion transparent: you choose the rule, enter the CGPA and scale, then review the exact equation used for the percentage estimate.
Start with the common 10-point multiplier only when it fits your context. If your school uses a different maximum or offset, choose scale ratio or custom formula instead.
Type a CGPA such as 8.20. The value must be zero or higher and cannot exceed the maximum CGPA scale you enter.
Select Calculate Percentage to see the percentage, equation, method, and confidence note. Use Copy result when you want to reuse the calculation.
COMMON VALUES
These CGPA to percentage calculator examples use the common 10-point CGPA × 9.5 estimate. They answer quick searches such as 7 CGPA in percentage or 8.5 CGPA in percentage, but they do not replace an official conversion notice.
| CGPA | Calculation | Estimated percentage |
|---|---|---|
| 7.0 | 7.0 × 9.5 |
66.50% |
| 7.5 | 7.5 × 9.5 |
71.25% |
| 8.0 | 8.0 × 9.5 |
76.00% |
| 8.2 | 8.2 × 9.5 |
77.90% |
| 8.5 | 8.5 × 9.5 |
80.75% |
| 9.0 | 9.0 × 9.5 |
85.50% |
| 10.0 | 10.0 × 9.5 |
95.00% |
A 10.0 CGPA does not automatically mean 100% under the 9.5 multiplier. If your institution defines percentage as a direct scale ratio, choose Scale ratio and enter the correct maximum.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT CONVERSION
There is no single formula that applies to every university, board, course, or academic year. This calculator is most reliable when you select the rule printed on your marksheet, transcript instructions, admission form, or official notice.
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
This calculator offers a widely used quick conversion for a 10-point scale. It is useful for an initial estimate, but the result should be labeled indicative until your institution confirms the multiplier.
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
Use this named option only when the relevant CBSE record or application instruction asks for the 9.5 multiplier. A formula associated with one document should not be applied to every university transcript.
Percentage = (CGPA − 0.75) × 10
Some VTU conversion contexts use an offset before multiplying. Because schemes and years can differ, check the applicable VTU document rather than treating this preset as universal.
Percentage = CGPA ÷ maximum CGPA × 100
This is the direct mathematical ratio. A CGPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale becomes 80.00% by this method, but a school may still publish a table or another conversion rule.
Percentage = (CGPA − offset) × multiplier
If your official instructions provide a multiplier and an offset, enter both values here. The calculator checks the output range but cannot verify whether the parameters belong to your institution.
UNDERSTAND THE INPUT
A calculator can apply arithmetic exactly, but it cannot identify the correct academic policy from a CGPA alone. Confirm these details before you use the percentage in an application or report.
Confirm whether your CGPA is out of 4, 5, 10, or another maximum. The scale-ratio method needs this value, and the 9.5 presets are intended for a 10-point context.
Look for wording such as CGPA × 9.5, (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, a conversion table, or a percentage shown directly on the transcript. Use the source that your receiving organization accepts.
The calculator displays two decimal places for readability. Your university or application may round to a whole number, one decimal place, or a specific table value, so follow its instructions when formatting the final answer.
A board rule, university scheme, course regulation, and admission form can use different wording. If a form asks for an official percentage, contact the registrar or issuing institution when the rule is unclear.
BOUNDARIES AND ERROR STATES
The calculator prevents impossible input and explains its method, but an arithmetic result is not proof that a particular institution will accept the conversion.
If you apply CGPA × 9.5 to a transcript that requires a direct ratio, a grade table, or an offset formula, the calculator can still produce a clean number. The method label and scope warning are there to help you catch that mismatch.
Negative CGPA values, a CGPA above the selected maximum, or a custom formula that produces less than 0% or more than 100% are rejected. Check the inputs and the official rule instead of silently clipping the result.
A 3.2 on a 4.0 scale is not the same raw value as 3.2 on a 10-point scale. Select Scale ratio for a proportional estimate and enter the actual maximum; do not use a 9.5 multiplier simply because it is familiar.
The calculation runs in your browser and the calculator does not ask for your name, student ID, transcript upload, or account. Normal browser analytics or advertising technologies described in the Privacy Policy are separate from the calculator math.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Use these quick answers to understand the formula, scale, accuracy, and limits of a CGPA to percentage conversion.
Enter your CGPA, choose the formula required by your school or university, and calculate. A common 10-point estimate is CGPA × 9.5, but many institutions use another multiplier, an offset, a table, or a direct scale ratio.
Using the common CGPA × 9.5 estimate, 7.0 CGPA is 66.50%. This is an indicative calculation; check whether your institution accepts the 9.5 multiplier before using it officially.
Using the common 10-point estimate, 8.5 × 9.5 equals 80.75%. Select the formula that matches your transcript if your university publishes a different conversion method.
No. The 9.5 multiplier is common in some grading contexts, but it is not a universal rule for every university, course, scheme, or year. Treat the result as indicative unless your official instructions specify it.
For a proportional estimate, choose Scale ratio, enter the CGPA, and set the maximum scale to 4.0. For example, 3.2 ÷ 4.0 × 100 gives 80.00%. Your institution may use a different table or policy.
You can select the VTU-style preset to calculate (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, but it is scheme-dependent. Check the applicable VTU document, academic scheme, and year before treating the percentage as official.
Not always. Under the 9.5 multiplier, 10.0 CGPA equals 95.00%. It equals 100% only under a direct ratio where the maximum CGPA is 10.0, and your institution may still use another policy.
You can reverse a known linear formula, but you must use the same rule that produced the percentage. For CGPA × 9.5, divide the percentage by 9.5; for a ratio, multiply the percentage by the maximum scale and divide by 100.
